Why should I work with you instead of a larger design firm or advertising agency?
I have very little overhead, which allows me to keep my prices low. Plus, I deliver reliable, comprehensive, one-on-one service. Larger firms generally have a hierarchy of art directors, graphic designers, production assistants, and other creative professionals. You may have no control over who actually designs each of your projects. You might have to rely on a salesperson or customer service representative to communicate your needs to the design team second-hand. With The Designer Next Door, you deal directly with the person who brings your projects to life. Top of page

What is your price structure?
I charge a single hourly rate for all of my services, although I may occasionally offer special packages for a flat fee. Invoices will include charges for the amount of hours worked, plus any extra expenses incurred on your behalf, such as stock photography or printing services. Shipping charges (if any) and applicable taxes will be added. I am open to negotiating a discounted rate for regular work. Please contact me for more details. Top of page

Are your price estimates accurate?
Except for winning the lottery, no one likes surprises when it comes to money. By definition, estimates are not written in stone. However, I make every effort to ask my customers the questions that will allow me to quote an accurate price. If, during the course of a project, you request additional or unusual work, your total cost will be affected accordingly. Likewise, if your completed project results in lower-than-anticipated charges, this will be reflected on your invoice. My policy is to be fair in all aspects of business, and I believe an informed customer is a happy customer. Top of page

What kind of proofs to you provide?
The Designer Next Door provides PDF file proofs (which can easily and immediately be viewed on most platforms with the free Adobe Reader software) and/or inkjet printouts. Actual size mockups are prepared for projects such as brochures to show folds and pagination. For color-critical jobs, high-quality digital proofs may be provided via a third-party print vendor. Extra charges will apply. Top of page

I'm not located near you. Will it be difficult for you to work on my project?
Not at all. Graphic design jobs often require good communication with customers, but modern office technology does a great job of facilitating the design process across distances. While I welcome local customers and enjoy meeting people face-to-face, I have a great deal of experience working remotely -- both as a designer and as a purchaser of design services. Long distance business relationships can work very smoothly. Top of page
